Description
A pair of Canadian $20 925 silver proof coins, dated 1985, commemorating the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. Each coin features a crowned profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, inscribed “ELIZABETH II CANADA” alongside a maple leaf. The reverse of each coin depicts a specific Winter Olympic sport for the “CALGARY 1988” games, indicated by the Olympic rings and a snowflake symbol, with a “20 DOLLARS” denomination. One coin illustrates a speed skater, and the other a downhill skier. The edge of each encapsulated coin is inscribed “JEUX OLYMPIQUES”. The coins are struck in 0.925 silver and presented in their original green velvet-covered hinged box with a matching white slipcover. The slipcover specifies “Downhill Skiing/Ski alpin” and “Speed Skating/Patinage de vitesse.” Both the box and slipcover bear a stylized figure emblem above the Olympic rings. The coins are housed in clear plastic capsules.
