Description
This is a single cast iron fireback, likely of European origin, featuring a robust geometric relief pattern. The surface is divided by thick raised lines forming a grid of quadrants, triangles, and squares, all set against a heavily textured, stippled background. The central square contains a pronounced heraldic motif, identified in research as a Gothic Arms style, consisting of a quartered, striped shield surrounded by crossed banners, flags, and polearms/halberds. The object was manufactured using a casting process. Raised numerals ‘675’ are visible in the upper central section of the piece.
