Description
A pair of vintage GoldSmith sporting goods consisting of one Official 97 League baseball and its associated retail packaging. The baseball features a slightly aged, off-white horse hide cover secured with characteristic red and black stitching. The ball is stamped with specifications and manufacturer details, including “Official 97 League, ” “REG. U. S. PAT. OFF., ” “9 INCH 5 OZ., ” “HORSE HIDE COVER, ” and “RUBBER CENTER.” Additional markings include “GoldSmith, ” “MADE IN U. S. A., ” and “a Preferred PRODUCT.” The accompanying GoldSmith retail box is constructed of black cardboard trimmed in red, marked “97 Official League / Rubber Center, ” and features a graphic illustration depicting players along with the slogan “SMART EQUIPMENT FOR SMART PLAY.” The ball and box are consistent with vintage official league equipment from the mid-20th century.
