A pair of 1986 United States Liberty commemorative coins struck at the San Francisco Mint. The collection consists of one silver dollar90% and one clad half dollar. The silver dollar obverse features the Statue of Liberty with Ellis Island and the inscription Ellis Island Gateway to America, while the reverse depicts the torch with an excerpt from the Emma Lazarus poem. The half dollar obverse depicts the Statue of Liberty against a sunburst, and the reverse shows an immigrant family on a pier. Both coins exhibit the S mint mark and a proof finish. The items are housed in clear plastic capsules within a blue velvet-lined presentation case. The interior lid features the Great Seal of the United States on white silk with the text United States Liberty Coins 1886-1986. The exterior of the case features a gold-tone Great Seal. The set is accompanied by the original blue cardboard outer sleeve.
