Description

This 1964 US Kennedy half dollar is a struck coin composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. It was produced at the Philadelphia Mint, indicated by the absence of a mint mark on the reverse above the L in DOLLAR. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy with the stylized designer mark GR for Gilroy Roberts at the truncation of the neck. Inscriptions include LIBERTY along the upper rim, IN GOD WE TRUST across the field, and the date 1964 at the base. The reverse displays a modified presidential seal featuring a heraldic eagle with a shield, holding an olive branch and arrows. The designer mark FG for Frank Gasparro is visible between the eagle’s tail feathers and the talons on the right side of the coin. Reverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HALF DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM on a banner.
