Description
This is a clear pressed glass novelty covered dish in the classic hen on nest form. The piece consists of two parts: a lid molded in the shape of a nesting hen and an oval base dish. The lid features a detailed hen with a vertical fan tail, textured feathering, and a distinct molded circular rosette medallion on its back. The comb and wattle of the hen feature red cold-painted decoration. The matching oval base features a flared rim decorated with a molded basketweave or crosshatch pattern and a smooth flat bottom. There are no manufacturer marks, signatures, or labels present on either the lid or the base. This design is commonly attributed to the Indiana Glass Company.
