Description

A 1890 United States Morgan silver dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. The obverse features the George T. Morgan design of a left-facing profile portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap decorated with wheat and cotton, with a headband inscribed LIBERTY in raised capital letters. The legends E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date 1890 are visible around the border alongside thirteen stars. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with spread wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, partially encircled by a laurel wreath. The motto In God we trust is inscribed in Gothic script above the eagle, with the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR around the border. The absence of a mint mark on the reverse above the letters DO in DOLLAR identifies this piece as a product of the Philadelphia Mint. The coin features a reeded edge.
