Lot 47:
A Pair of American Tin Lithograph P. Lorillard Company Tiger Tobacco Bins
Description
This lot consists of two American metal tobacco bins with rectangular forms, hinged lids, and wire bail handles. The first tin features red lithography decorated with a black woven basket-weave pattern. Three sides of the bin are decorated with a black graphic depiction of a tiger head. The lid displays a partially obscured lithograph on a yellow and red background. A printed inscription in black characters reads TIGER CHEWING TOBACCO, followed by P. LORILLARD CO. The second tin is constructed of metal with a vertical wire bail handle and has lost its original decorative finish. Both items exhibit traditional early 20th-century industrial construction with folded seams and simple hinge mechanisms.
