Lot 128:
Description
A single, large-capacity utilitarian stoneware jug, characteristic of American pottery from the late 19th or early 20th century. The vessel features a classic two-tone glazing application. The main cylindrical body is covered in an off-white or light grey salt glaze. The shoulder, neck, and applied handle are finished with a glossy, dark brown Albany slip glaze. The front of the jug is decorated with a cobalt blue slip marking depicting the numeral “5” centered within a stylized shield or heart outline, indicating a five-gallon capacity. A cork stopper is visible in the narrow neck opening.
