Lot 136:
Description
A single piece of folk art sculpture depicting an early 20th-century style biplane. The model is constructed primarily from various ferrous metal components, including rusted sheet metal used for the wings and tail fin, bent wire forming the structural supports and rigging, and cylindrical metal pieces assembled to represent a rudimentary engine block. The aircraft features a four-wheeled undercarriage and includes a simplistic pilot figure constructed from bent metal pieces seated in the cockpit. The entire metal structure is mounted securely on a dark-stained, rectangular wooden base. The base features deep, parallel diagonal grooves carved across its surface. No manufacturer’s marks or inscriptions are visible.
Approximately 9 inches in length.
