Description
An Early 20th Century Chinese Coromandel Lacquer four-panel folding screen, crafted from wood with a black lacquer finish and decorated in a traditional East Asian style. The front features a continuous landscape scene depicting pagodas, bridges, trees, and numerous figures in polychrome carved or incised lacquer, often referred to as Coromandel style. Visible Chinese characters on the upper right panel read “九龍三千尺” (Nine Dragons, Three Thousand Feet) and “碧 山” (Green Mountain). The reverse side is also black lacquered and decorated with scattered motifs of flowering branches and birds. The panels are connected by dark metal hinges, and the feet are protected by brass-toned metal caps.
