Lot 41:
Description
A single, large, elongated mask carved from wood and polychrome painted, executed in a stylized African tribal manner, potentially referencing the Guro style. The anthropomorphic face is painted predominantly in deep red, framed by a black cap. The eyes are large and stylized, painted white with black and teal accents. The mask features a complex headdress consisting of two large, curved white horn or tusk elements. These horns are cradled by the stylized blue hands and legs of a yellow and blue-painted bird figure mounted vertically atop the crown. Below the face, the mask terminates in a pronounced, abstract white chin or beard component featuring a large, jagged cutout. The reverse side bears a small handwritten marking, possibly "206".
Total length: 23.5 inches
