Description

A collection of decorative fine china and porcelain commemorative plates manufactured between 1975 and 1981. The group includes pieces from the Southern Landmark Series by Gorham, featuring full-color transfer-printed illustrations after paintings by artist John Alan Maxwell. These plates were produced for the American Commemorative Council Ltd. and sponsored by the National Historical Society. Depicted landmarks include Monticello, Drayton Hall, Elmscourt, Liberty Hall, Custis-Lee Mansion, and Oak Hill. The lot also contains a 1981 Cutty Sark plate from The Great Clipper Ships Plate Collection by Franklin Porcelain. All plates feature gilded rims and comprehensive manufacturer marks, series titles, and limited edition numbers on the reverse.
