Description
This G.I. Joe Classic Collection action figure is titled D-Day Salute and was manufactured by Kenner for Hasbro in 1997. The 12-inch scale figure commemorates the 1st Infantry Division, known as The Big Red One, and their role in the Normandy landings of World War II. The articulated plastic figure is dressed in a fabric combat uniform consisting of a jacket, trousers, and boots with gaiters. A plastic helmet with simulated netting is included. The set features several plastic accessories secured in the original packaging, including an M1 Garand rifle with a sling, a field pack with straps, a canteen with a pouch, a mess kit, and an entrenching tool. A miniature paper reproduction of a newspaper with the headline NEW ALLIED LANDINGS is also present. The packaging consists of a color-lithographed box with a front flap that opens to reveal the figure through a clear window. The interior flap contains historical text and illustrations regarding the Omaha Beach landings. Printed marks on the box include G.I. JOE CLASSIC COLLECTION, D-DAY SALUTE, and LIMITED EDITION FIRST IN A SERIES HOLIDAY FIGURE. The reverse side displays the Kenner logo and copyright information for 1997 Hasbro, Inc.
