Description
This vintage steamer trunk features a green-painted body reinforced with black metal banding and numerous rivets. The top is marked with red stenciled letters reading MORRIS and white/yellow stenciled initials M N. Several distressed and partially torn paper shipping labels from the North German Lloyd line are affixed to the surface. One label identifies the passenger as Mr. Melville Norris for a sailing on the S.S. Europa from Pier 4 in Brooklyn, New York, to Southampton, with a sailing date of 7-23-37 and a final destination of Pembroke, Wales. The trunk is fitted with heavy metal latches and decorative corner guards.
