Description
This is a mid-20th century clear glass countertop merchandising jar produced for the Tom Huston Peanut Company, widely known as Tom’s. The cylindrical jar features vibrant blue screen-printed graphics on the front face reading Enjoy Tom’s PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES and SWEET SANDWICHES in a combination of script and block lettering. Small text at the bottom right of the graphic reads Prop. TOM’S Distbr. — Not to be sold. The jar includes a matching clear glass lid topped with a prominent red glass knob that is embossed with the Tom’s brand name. The base of the jar exhibits a characteristic stippled or pebbled texture. This type of vessel was a common fixture in general stores and filling stations for displaying snack crackers.
