Description
An antique cast iron string holder or dispenser featuring a stepped, domed form resembling a traditional beehive or skep. The apex of the dome contains a circular aperture for dispensing twine or string. The base is flared with a decorative fluted or gadrooned edge. Internally, a circular iron plate is secured by integrated tabs; this plate contains four large circular holes and a small central hole, designed to hold a ball of string in place. The object is constructed from a single casting with a separate interior base plate. No maker marks or foundry stamps are visible.
