Description
This US Series 1957 A $1 Silver Certificate is a small-size legal tender note, identified as Friedberg 1619. The obverse features the portrait of George Washington at center, with a blue Treasury seal positioned to the right. The serial number Q 81716265 A is printed in blue ink at the upper right and lower left. This series bears the facsimile signatures of Elizabeth Rudel Smith, Treasurer of the United States, and C. Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury. Along the bottom edge, the note includes the text IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND. The reverse depicts the two sides of the Great Seal of the United States with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST printed above the large central ONE. This 1957 series was the first US paper currency to incorporate the national motto. The note is printed with black and blue inks on characteristic fibrous currency paper.
