Lot 31:
Description
A 1950 vintage hand-pieced and hand-quilted cotton patchwork quilt featuring an Eight-Pointed Star (LeMoyne Star) block pattern. Each block is constructed from diamond-shaped patches of various calico prints including floral, geometric, and dotted patterns in shades of pink, purple, blue, and green. These star blocks are set into a grid of solid light blue cotton sashing. The reverse of the quilt is a solid cream-colored cotton fabric. Hand-quilting stitches are visible throughout, following the geometric lines of the stars and the sashing blocks. The perimeter is finished with a decorative hand-worked white zigzag embroidery stitch used to secure the binding to the quilt top. No maker labels, tags, or signatures are visible.
