Description

This 0.900 silver currency piece is a United States Morgan dollar dated 1885. The obverse features the left-facing profile of Liberty, with the word LIBERTY readable on her headband. The profile is encircled by the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, thirteen stars, and the date 1885 at the base. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with outspread wings holding an olive branch and arrows, framed by a laurel wreath. The reverse face bears the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, with the motto In God we trust inscribed in Gothic script above the eagle. The lack of a mint mark above the DOLLAR inscription identifies this as a Philadelphia mint strike. The coin features a reeded edge and maintains fine detail in the hair and feathers.
