Description

This US 1862 silver three-cent piece, commonly known as a trime, is a Variety 3 issue struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features a six-pointed star with a central shield, surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date 1862. The reverse depicts a large Roman numeral III set within an ornate capital C, encircled by thirteen six-pointed stars. The coin is composed of a .900 silver alloy and features a plain edge. As a Philadelphia Mint issue, it does not bear a mint mark.
