Lot 90:
Description
This 1885 US silver dollar was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The coin features the Morgan obverse and a heraldic eagle reverse. It is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper with a reeded edge. The obverse bears the inscriptions E • PLURIBUS • UNUM and the date 1885. The reverse features the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR with the motto In God We Trust in Gothic script. The absence of a mint mark above the DOLLAR inscription confirms the Philadelphia strike. The 1885 Philadelphia issue is a common date within the Morgan dollar series.
