Description

An antique Western Electric wall-mounted magneto telephone housed in a quartersawn oak cabinet. The unit features twin brass ringer bells at the top and a stationary transmitter mouthpiece mounted on a metal arm. A black composition handset receiver is suspended from a hook on the left side. The right side of the cabinet is fitted with a hand-turned crank for operating the internal magneto generator. A slanted writing shelf is positioned below the transmitter. Inside the cabinet, the magneto generator bears a gold-toned label reading Western Electric MADE IN U.S.A. The top inner wooden edge of the cabinet is incised with the number 1600 and partially legible letters starting with OL. The internal mechanics include the original magneto, coils, and various colored cloth-covered and plastic-covered wires.
