Lot 171:
Description
This is a vintage civilian 3/4 or jet-style open-face motorcycle helmet, likely dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. The helmet is finished in a textured matte black coating over a shell likely constructed of fiberglass or molded plastic. On both the left and right sides of the exterior shell, there are hand-painted red symbols resembling Sig runes, historically associated with the Schutzstaffel (SS). These markings are hand-applied, showing irregular brushwork and varying thickness consistent with post-manufacture modification rather than factory decals. The interior features a padded liner of dark brown and black leather with visible perimeter stitching. The suspension includes a woven nylon or canvas fabric chin strap secured by metal rivets and a double D-ring buckle system. No manufacturer marks, brand labels, or Department of Transportation (DOT) safety rating stickers are visible on the shell or lining. The style and markings are characteristic of mid-20th-century outlaw biker subculture.
