Description
A mid-century industrial postal beam scale manufactured in Chicago, Illinois. The instrument is constructed from metal with a textured gold-toned hammertone finish. It features a rectangular flat weighing platform at the left, connected to a balance beam assembly. The balance beam is graduated in half-ounce increments from 0 to 16 ounces. Below the beam is a large, rectangular postal rate chart protected by a clear cover. This chart, identified as Chart No. AA-4, provides detailed domestic and international shipping rates for various classes including First Class, Priority, Second Class Transient, and Third Class mail. The base of the unit is an elongated, contoured metal form that houses the internal mechanical lever system.
The scale bears a red printed logo on the left side of the main body consisting of a globe and needle graphic with the text TRINER SCALES. The bottom of the rate chart includes printed text that reads TRINER SCALE and MFG. CO. CHICAGO, IL 60608 along with CHART NO. AA-4 EFFECTIVE: 11-1-81. The underside of the scale shows the cast metal base and the mechanical linkage components secured with screws.
