Description
A group of United States Winged Liberty Head dimes, popularly referred to as Mercury dimes, struck in 90 percent silver. Each coin features the obverse portrait of Liberty facing left wearing a winged Phrygian cap. The legend LIBERTY is positioned around the upper rim, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears in the left field, and the date is struck at the bottom. This group includes specimens dated 1924, 1926, 1929, 1941, 1944, and 1945. The reverse design consists of a fasces entwined with an olive branch. Inscribed around the rim are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME, with the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM in the right field. A small D mint mark, indicating production at the Denver Mint, is visible on the 1945 specimen at the lower left of the reverse; the remaining coins lack visible mint marks, signifying Philadelphia Mint strikes or obscured marks due to wear. The coins are in circulated condition with varying degrees of toning.
