Description
A pair of United States twenty-five cent coins, known as Washington quarters, dated 1939 and 1942. Each coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. The obverse features the left-facing profile of George Washington, with the word LIBERTY inscribed along the top edge, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST to the left of the portrait, and the respective dates 1939 and 1942 at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with spread wings perched upon a bundle of arrows with olive branches below. The reverse is inscribed with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and QUARTER DOLLAR. The 1939 coin has no mint mark visible below the eagle’s tail feathers, identifying it as a strike from the Philadelphia Mint. The 1942 coin features a worn area in the mint mark position where no specific character is clearly legible. Both coins have reeded edges.
